Nerve treatments
When a cavity has reached the nerve or trauma has damaged/exposed the nerve, removal of the affected portion of the nerve is necessary. There are several forms of nerve treatments that are performed at Vestavia Hills Pediatric Dentistry that are performed based upon what caused the injury to the nerve.
- Pulpotomies – Removal of the top/ affected portion of the nerve, a antiseptic medication is then placed and the tooth is restored with a filling/crown.
- Pulpectomies – Removal of the whole nerve from the tooth. This is done is badly damaged front teeth due to decay or trauma or abscessed permanent teeth prior to root canal treatment to get the patient out of pain.
